Michael Schmidt

Michael is a local artist, art teacher, and recipient of the esteemed Klammie Award for set work he did for the Linkville Playhouse. His work is deeply inspired by dreams, mythology, nature, and history—woven together to create colorful, surreal meditations on life, aspirations, inner conflict, and spirituality. Working across various media, Michael brings his vivid inner world to life through layered symbolism and expressive technique.

While he often gravitates toward acrylics for their rich hues and fast-drying properties, Michael also embraces the sculptural quality of oil paints, which allow him to blend texture and form in unique ways. His creative process typically begins with intuitive color work and gestural lines, allowing each piece to emerge organically. Once a vision takes shape, he moves into a more refined stage of sketching and experimentation, shaping the final elements with care and intention.

Though many of his pieces explore darker themes—particularly the concept of death—Michael’s work equally celebrates the beauty of survival and rebirth. Each creation becomes a visual interpretation of his dreamscape, inviting viewers to reflect on the mysteries of life and the subconscious.

We are thrilled to welcome Michael Schmidt to the Two Rivers Art Gallery community, and we look forward to sharing in the journey of his imaginative and thought-provoking work.
